78-year-old Mariana Ong’ango Ololo, a new pupil at Obambo Primary School, is not only the oldest pupil in her class, the grandmother is also the oldest pupil in the school.
Ololo, who hails from Siaya county, reportedly showed up at the school unannounced on 14 May, in a school uniform with a shaved head and accompanied by her 56-year-old son George.
The school principal Joseph Muloand told the Daily Nation, “It is a unique case. We have to lay down a strategy of handling such an elderly pupil.” Ololo has already missed classes on several occasions due to her poor health.
The Nation reports that she is a mother of eight and has been a widow since 2002. She reportedly started school because of an interest in politics and was inspired to do so by the election of Uhuru Kenyatta. She told the Daily Nation, "“Uhuru Kenyatta is not an old man, but took over as fourth President because he has got an education. That is a clear indicator that a person cannot rank highly in society without an education.”
Her story is very similar to that of Guinness World Record holder Kimani Maruge who enrolled in primary school at the age of 84. Maruge had a 2010 movie, called The First Grader, made about his experience.

After all that this guy did to me, every guy that I meet and seem to fall in love with or any one that tells me he’s in love with me, I don’t take them seriously. All I know is that you guys will be chasing something and on getting it, you leave the morning after that.

Oprah Winfrey in tears as she receives Harvard doctorate degree

One of the most influential women in the world, Oprah Winfrey, was in tears, today as she received a honorary doctorate degree from Harvard University during the university’s 362nd commencement.
The ceremony brought tears or emotion to the 59-year-old media titan as she received her honorary doctorate degree.
Oprah has her own television network — OWN — and has an estimated net worth of $2.7 billion.

The Real Housewives Coming To Lagos

According to inside sources, NBCUniversal owners of the popular America docu-reality series; the Real Housewives Franchise is partnering with a Nigerian organisation to produce a version of the show for the African audience.  The new show will be called the Real Housewives of Lagos and will cover the lifestyle of 5 – 8  different women resident in Lagos.These women must fit a certain profile; aged between 30 and 50, extremely wealthy - married into money, inherited a fortune through her family, or just self-made millionaires - they could be married, divorced or single.  They will also grant an all-access pass to their lives: their families, friendships, careers and homes.

BIG BROTHER AFRICA THE CHASE Heats Up: First Couple Emerges?

                                  

It’s just day 3 of this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa (the Chase) and housemates are still getting to know each other but that didn’t stop Ethiopia’s Betty and Sierra Leone’s super sharp guy, Bolt from sharing an intimate moment last night.
While their fellow #BBAChase housemates were sleeping,the couple kissed passionately and they would have taken it a step further but it seem Bolt came to the party unprepared.
In what seems to be frantic search for condoms, Bolt ransacked his pocket but the search was futile (Maybe, he’s not so sharp after all).
The duo gave up on the kiss and went to the kitchen to drink some water instead. As the duo haven’t said much about dating each other, time will tell if this was just a ”once off” incident or there will be similar ”recurring” incidents.
We are pretty sure there’ll be more fun and excitement to follow in the 2013 edition of Big Brother Africa – The Chase


 

BBATheChase: Early exit awaits?

On Sunday the 2nd of June, two housemates will pack their luggage and bid their fellow housemates and indeed the whole of Africa farewell but not to worry Nigeria, your darling Beverley and Melvin will see this one through and through. Five housemates from both the Ruby and Diamond are up for possible eviction.

From the Diamond house; Ethiopia’s Betty,Kenya’s Huddah and Denzel representing Uganda may suffer an early exit while from the Ruby house, Ghana’s Selly and Malawi’s Natasha may suffer a similar fate. Worthy of note is the fact that only Natasha and Betty are in the know of a possible eviction on Sunday so it is expected that they turn up their charms and strategies to get your votes in their favour. The three other #Chasers, Selly, Huddah and Denzel will get  the shock of their lives when reality finally sets in on Sunday.
My bet on an early reunion with their family and friends is on Ethiopia’s Betty and Ghana’s Selly but it’s all on you Africa,who are you sending home on Sunday?
